Hi, my name is Roman Chekurov
a design engineer based in Berlin, driven by design systems, accessibility, and the craft of UI
Great products start where design thinking meets engineering craft.
My work lives at that intersection — shaping UI, design systems, and tools that keep products consistent, scalable, and future-proof.

Work Experience
As a design engineer at Busbud, I’ve been leading the evolution of the company’s design system, called Horizon. In collaboration with designers, we redefined the UI React foundation — moving beyond legacy MUI components to a modern, system-first architecture and reducing friction between design and code.
I focused on making the UI scalable and fast while improving developer experience — simplifying workflows, boosting performance, and helping teams ship features faster and more confidently.
Today, the design system powers multiple Busbud products, from the B2B dashboard and checkout flows to white-label partner solutions. It’s flexible, accessible, and built to scale.
As a UI engineer at Celonis, I contributed to the foundation of a company-wide design system and UI kit called Emotion. I built and maintained Angular components, unified visual patterns, and improved collaboration between design and engineering.
With the design team, we introduced Figma as the single source of truth and established design tokens for better consistency. I also focused on accessibility — auditing components and closing WCAG compliance gaps.
This work helped Celonis scale its interface with clarity and consistency, enabling faster product delivery and a more inclusive user experience.
As a UI developer at Wrike, I built and optimized UIs for key product areas, including navigation, grid view, automation engine, request forms, and more.
I worked to bring accessibility into every stage of development, from design reviews to QA testing. We reached WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and built a culture where accessibility was simply part of how we worked.
Along the way, I contributed to the company’s core UI kit used by 30+ product teams, improving consistency, performance, and long-term maintainability.

About me
Hello, I’m Roman, a design engineer from Berlin who blends design thinking with front-end craft. I focus on design systems, UI development, and accessibility — finding harmony between vision, code, and how products feel in use.
Over the years, I’ve worked across design and engineering teams, building the connective tissue that holds both worlds together — foundations and tools to keep design and implementation in sync. Working at that intersection taught me to think in systems, to see how consistency, motion, and clarity shape the user experience.
When I’m not in front of a keyboard, I’m exploring through travel, photography, books, and music. Curiosity keeps me learning new tools and ideas that expand how I think about design, engineering, and the way things are made.
